Following Jesus
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
At once they left their nets and followed him.
Mark 1:17-18
Jesus’ specialty is transforming lives. He promised his disciples that if they follow him, their lives will change. They will never be the same after they’re done with His school of discipleship. They must have been very excited as Jesus invited them to follow Him. Little did they know that there is a world of difference between bringing in fish and bringing in people, between simply earning a living and living for the cause of Christ.
For the next three years, Jesus would transform these ordinary fishermen into world changers. But before they could change the world, Jesus had to overhaul their manner of thinking and transform their way of living. Jesus would be with them, break their preconceived ideas and prejudices, teach them about the kingdom and train them in the ministry.
Discipleship involves transformation. Being a disciple of Jesus means giving him the authority to break us, teach us, and to train us. All these for the purpose of transforming us into the people that he wants us to be. It will not be easy for sure but it is going to be worth it! Are you ready to take your first lessons in Jesus school of discipleship?
