Ministry Highlight: Finance
We were all made to build the church as revealed to us in Ephesians 4:11-13. With our unique God-given talents, personalities and skill-sets, we achieve the biggest difference when we utilize these spiritual gifts to build the church. And church building involves a team of people with a unified vision and mission to serve Christ and His ministry.
For me, I was called to service in the Finance Ministry. Church finance plays a critical role in a ministry’s success. When the church is set up to be financially strong, we tangibly equip it to accomplish its intangible, God-given calling. The ministry works behind-the-scenes to ensure that financial resources of the church are raised, managed and distributed to support and strengthen the mission and ministry of God’s church. We are a growing committee with different responsibilities and roles, and equally accountable to each other.
Serving in the ministry allowed me to understand that the basic skill of financial matters is just supplementary to the greater responsibility of biblical stewardship and management of all God provides. Serving in the finance ministry goes beyond writing cheques, paying the church’s bills and all other administrative tasks; it is the opportunity to serve Christ and His church, by helping steward the gifts to further build God’s kingdom. Most importantly, service in the ministry has greatly impacted my own life in my own relationship and perspective of Christ. Being part of the ministry has left me in awe time and time again as the Lord continues to reveal His glory and grace through the church’s finances. In times of want and deficiency, God always provides! In times of doubt, the Lord reveals that He is bigger and in Him, everything is possible. And this declaration resounds louder today as the Lord provided Word International Ministries with a new home – a vision we never thought was feasible financially, but Christ mightily worked in our midst.
God’s word in Matthew 6:33 says “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and these things will be given to you as well.” And with this promise, Philippians 4:19 reveals “and my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus”. When our service in ministry is solely focused on Christ and building His church, the Lord reveals His glory in our lives and our church.
