Use Your Talents: Writing and Design Workshop
On feb. 10, the media ministry held its second workshop which was about writing and design. The workshop began with a breakdown of the ministry’s mission, vision and purpose; as workers, it’s important to be able to visualize the reason why we do our work.
The design portion of the workshop, presented by ate LA, explained the broad reach of things designed in our church. Practical tips were also introduced that gave ideas on the do’s and don’ts of design. There was an activity where we had to draw 6 sketches of different pictures and make them all unique; this touched upon the little things about designing graphics and presenting them.
The latter half of the workshop, presented by ate Chelsea, was focused on writing which gave us writing tips and tricks to improve our writing. One activity we did was to pick a word and write about it without mentioning it. This tested our creative abilities and gave us a way to use different writing styles.
One verse that stood out from this experience was For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do – Ephesians 2:10. We should design graphics with purpose, keeping in mind the audience that will see our work; writing should be done in the same way because there is a situation that calls for a certain kind of writing. Ultimately, we should do these things with the goal of glorifying God with the talents He has given us.
