They Are The Church
They Are The Church
Being a participant at several VBS and Sunday School’s growing up, it’s become an interesting perspective to be a volunteer at one of them. When you participate as a volunteer at one of these events, you fully see the extensive amount of hours and work it takes to put together these events, let alone one day of it. God’s goodness is so evident as I’ve witnessed a big chunk of our church come together to give their time and effort to make a day of evangelism for our children to be memorable and successful.
On the 15th of July, we had a special Sunday service for our children. It began with our children’s band leading us into worship. I found it amazing that through our children, songs so simple can remind us of basic truths that we should never get tired of claiming. Simple truths like Jesus loves me and how great is our God can still cultivate us to worship our God with all that we have.
After worship, instead of the kids going straight to Sunday School, they were asked to sit in the front of the congregation to participate in a special preaching by Pastor Edmund Nopuente. With such fascinating demonstrations, interesting visuals, quirky answers from the kids and the truth of God’s word, it did not only captivate our children but also everyone in the room. The word that Sunday was so simple and minuscule even, yet I found it to be so powerful. There is someone that cares about you and me. We may not physically see Him, but it’s the truth that He is everywhere, He is here. We are loved by the God of the universe, who created every ball of gas in the sky and every small algae in the sea. This is our God. More than ever, it’s something we all need to remind not only our children but those we love, those who are still in dire need to know that God loves them.
After the preaching, we had a special number from our children, dancing to one of the songs at VBS, Over the Moon. They definitely did such a tremendous job and impressed us all.
Towards the end of the service, we had quite an exciting ceremony with our two awesome astronauts, Jann and Jigo, to give out special Vacation Bible School certificates to our kids. Though how shy some were in approaching our astronauts, we all the more were proud of our children for being fantastic galactic starveyors at our VBS this year.
Our children were not the only one who received recognition, but our Junior Youth who graduated from our children’s ministry and into being now our Junior Youth. After being prayed over, we ended the service off by praying for those who have graduated and are now going into the next season in their lives. God is so good to bless us with every single person on that stage and as a church, we’re all so excited to see where God is leading them next.
Now being a volunteer at these Vacation Bible Schools, it has inspired me and made me realize how important it is to evangelize our children at this age as much as possible. They are not the future of our church, they are the church. Just as we disciple members of our church, we should also strive to disciple our children at whatever age they may be. I know that the simple teachings I have been brought up to as a child has become foundational in my walk with Christ, and more than ever it will be with your children as well.
