The Witness – A Retelling of Jesus’ Great Act
The story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection is one that is very familiar to the church. It’s also such an amazing opportunity to bring our friends and loved ones to church to encounter who Jesus is and what He did for us.
The Witness is a play, showcased by our church (On Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday) to retell the events of the life of Jesus Christ through the experience of Peter, His disciple.
This year, our church showcased the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ through Peter’s perspective. This perspective gave us a refreshing view of being a disciple of Christ and what it would have been like to witness first-hand Christ’s works and miracles.
The spectacle began with Peter (played by Miguel Reyes), meeting with John (Andy Rodriguez), a fellow disciple to meet Jesus (Ryle Garcia) for the first time, then goes onto telling of Jesus’ miracles, from raising a young girl from the dead, to bringing sight to a blind man, and to the feeding of the five thousand. We also see the last Supper, to Peter’s denial, and then the discovery of the empty tomb and the resurrection of Christ.
The Witness is a play that shows believers and unbelievers alike what Jesus did for us and the act of His greatest miracle – living on earth as a human to die for our sins. Resurrection Sunday is also a time for us to reflect on our lives as His followers and to see if we are living our lives to truly “take up our cross and follow Him”.
