Overcome – Torch Youth Christmas Party
Last Friday, December 14th, 2018, the Torch Youth held their annual Christmas Party at the East congregation’s building.
This year’s theme was based on John 1:5 where Ryle Garcia spoke to the youth on the theme – Light Overcoming Darkness. To illustrate the point, Ryle had the lights turned off and used a flashlight to illuminate only a small part of the room. But when he asked everyone to use their phones’ flashlights, the whole room was brightly lit. He shared that we can light our own path by being a light ourselves and that we can share this light with others as well.
The message emphasized a life of integrity and honesty, to stand out in faith in the midst of a world that offers tainted truth and biased opinions. It encourages young people like us to embrace our identity in Christ and strive to make a difference among our peers.
The party started off with praise and worship followed with some games and ice breakers designed to foster fellowship among the youth and their guests. Everyone was encouraged to come in ugly sweater attire. A competition on group presentations were also held where each group participant was tasked to illustrate in their own way the importance of the message in our own lives. The highlight of the party was the much-awaited exchange gift. This was done through a game where everyone gets a chance to steal other gifts of their choice causing hilarious fun and laughter.
Nearing the end of the party, Miguel Duterte, Jared Baylon & Elaine Edora were called up to the front as graduating members of the youth. The event was then ended with a word of prayer for them which concluded another blessed Christmas celebration for the youth. Indeed, time spent with the people of God is the best way to celebrate the season.
