WIMO Outreach @ Good Shepherd Ministries
On the weekends of July 29th and Aug 5th, Daisy and I, among other sisters from the church, volunteered at the “Good Shepherd Centre”. We didn’t know exactly what we would be doing there, but one thing was for sure and that was the desire within us to touch the someone’s heart by showing compassion, sharing the word, a prayer or a blessing that Jesus has bestowed upon us.
Knowing that the center is for the “less fortunate” people, we thought there might be a chance of doing this. Well, unfortunately, they didn’t get a chance to know Jesus, more than them coming out of broken families, poverty, abuse or anything else, where these are still unfortunate circumstances by all measures.
We arrived at Good Shepherd Center, and our task was to arrange beds at the dorm, while there were no clients during the day. But at the end, we got to share a prayer with a house keeping young guy who was supervising us there. We also met another volunteering team from another church, and they inspired us about how they are reaching out to the homeless by just listening to them in the streets while offering a coffee.
For us that was only the start, the appetizer for more outreach opportunities. We hope that would inspire more brothers and sisters from our church, because “the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few”. Who knows, one prayer or a small conversation could become a changing point or at least a plant seed in the life of someone. After all, who are we to hold these blessings for ourselves.
Jesus is coming soon, so let’s share the good news before it’s too late.
God bless,
Mazen Alafif
